Basell has set up a sales and marketing team in its China offices to address the growing demand for polyolefin pipe materials in the Chinese market.

“China is probably the fastest growing market for plastic pipes in the world,” said Michael Vogt, business development manager, for pipe materials in Asia. “Our goal is to further build upon the success we have already established in China.”

            Fifty years’ experience

The new team, which will be based in Basell’s Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou sales offices, will serve Chinese customers with a wide range of materials from Basell’s pipe portfolio, the product of over fifty years of experience in the sector.

They include Hostalen PE 80 and PE 100 grades for drinking water applications, Hostalen PP-R materials and Lupolen cross-linked PE for heating and plumbing installations, as well as  high-modulus Hostalen resins for sewage applications.

“We see significant potential,” said Michael Vogt. “Demand for plastic pipe in the country is expected to grow from 680 million metres in 2005 to a projected 1.1 billion metres in 2010, an annual increase of 10.5 per cent.”
