LyondellBasell is an active signatory to Australia’s National Packaging Covenant, so the company is committed to finding ways to minimize the impact of packaging on the country’s recycling effort. And where better to start than with LyondellBasell’s own bulk bags.
Analysis of the bags showed that the company had been shipping its products in a package made of polypropylene raffia, with shipping-label pouch made of PVC, all held together with polyester stitching. The replacement is believed to be Australia’s first all-polypropylene bulk bag, which simplifies recycling for our customers, and increases the value of the bag as a source of feedstock for the recycling industry.

The new bag has been extensively tested to recognized industry standards, including trials to certify integrity and stability, and to monitor its performance in loading, unloading, and storage operations. Graphics on the bag detail its single-use status, stacking instructions, and the polymer identification number for its greatly enhanced recyclability.
